  • Can you spot the problem – #1

    Attention detailers,

Take a look at the following below and see if you can identify the issue/problem at hand. Take careful note of what I have marked up, and try to identify the issue.

    Spot the problem
Consider the structural input drawing image as well, and see if you can spot the problems between the two.

This is the second image – please do compare it with the structurals.

    Here are the structural drawings:

Compare the structurals with the arch drawings to find the issue.

    Answer:

There is an unsupported hebel panel here. Without support, the panel will surely break off. Therefore it needs a PL to support that panel, notwithstanding the engineer’s omission.

This is the answer. You need to add a support for the Hebel panel.

Take a look at the mark up above.

  • Check Integrity of your Model file with CRC checker

We have modelers very nervous about someone has inadvertently changed their model once they saved and left for the day.

We can check the integrity of the model using MD5 checker.

We are using software from http://getmd5checker.com/

You take the .md5 file with you and next time you want to make sure of the file simply run the check again

  • Moodle Learning Management System

Tek1 is now offering to set up a learning management system for whoever needs it for a fee.

We have successfully used Moodle LMS to recruit and train.

While there are hundreds of thousands of engineering degree holders in India who is looking for a job for employers it is a big challenge to find the employable ones. Almost 95% of the young engineers passing out of engineering colleges in India are not employable as engineers. However, they will produce credentials and certificates showing that they have passed out with flying colors.

It is a recruiters nightmare if we have to screen all of the applicants one by one. Hence some sort of a method is required to screen out the un employable. That is what we have done using the Moodle LMS.

Now we are offering LMS services to whoever wants to take advantage of the expertise we have gained.

    Try the following link

  • D NUT BRACING OR CLEAT BRACING?

    D NUT BRACING
D NUT INSTALLATION ON A RAFTER

A lot of fabricators prefer D Nut bracing over cleat bracing because it is much simpler and cheaper. If the engineer has specified cleat bracing the detailer must investigate whether a D Nut bracing will be sufficient. If yes, then please RFI the engineer with D Nut bracing proposal. The fabricator could prefer this connection. Make sure the maximum angles of the D Nut is observed

  • Difficulties in getting in entry level engineering graduates

Here are some of the difficulties we are finding in recruitment.

    1. Most applicants simply click the apply button and really does not read the job posting and the requirements for the job.
    2. Most applicants do not check the inbox for any responses to the applications they have sent. This is about 80% of all applicants.
    3. Out of the20% who read the responses and who actually respond, do not read the incoming email properly and do some random things. We have no option to progress with the application.
    4. Now from the balance, who actually read email and take follow up action, 90% are not suitable because of lack of basic high school mathematics and general aptitude knowledge.

I am not sure whether all recruiters are facing the same problem. We surely are facing this issue
