2013 Australian Standards have changed for AS1657-2013
Here are some of the changes most pertinent to the work we do:
No Overlap required.
There is no overlap required. A gap of 30 mm between treads from the trailing edge of a tread to the nosing point of the next tread is allowed.
Changed Calculations:
Also the calculations on whether stair complies have changed.
See below for further details:
Uniform Dimensions
Section 7.2.3.2: All Risers and goings in the same flight of stairs shall be of uniform dimensions within a tolerance of 5 mm. The previous version of AS1657 was not explicit about this. I wonder how many inspectors were rejecting stairs or, giving the client a hard time because of some insignificant variation.
Online Training Resources
Tek1 have opened up its internal AS 1567 and AS 1428 training documentation and testing to the world. Anyone is free to enroll and learn from our online training packages, gratis. A special thank you to our Managing Director for making this possible. You can check it out here.
And here: http://tek1engineeringservices.com/onlinetests/course/index.php?categoryid=5
My recommendation is to enroll as a new user rather than using the public account – that way you can track your own progress on quizzes etc without impediments.

Tekla advanced settings allow you to force Loose part Mark Numbers to take Assemblyy mark number.
It is desirable to do this because of following reasons (more…)

Tek1 has significant experience detailing in a design and build context stairways, screens and balustrades for major projects (Miscellaneous steel detailing for stairways, balustrades, handrails to AS 1647 and US codes). These type of items fall under the category of miscellaneous steel. Some examples of our work can be seen at Melbourne Park (WatPac Project), Melbourne Park redevelopment (Lend lease project), Monash Green Chemicals (Lend Lease projects). For these projects we work as an extension of the metal works contractors, looking after their interests, attending site meetings, putting forward proposals, making sure the scope of work is covered by our client in their quotations. Any possible variation is brought to the attention to our client so that our client is financially protected. We are very conversant with Australian building code for stairs(public and private access), exits, ramps and walkways. We do not blindly detail these items to the drawings provided. We always check compliance and bring it to the attention of archtects. We are extremely competitive in miscellaneous steel projects. We provide videos, snap shots, various suggestions so that the design will work for you.
Katherine Precinct Community Hall was a design and construct project undertaken by Tek1 Pty Ltd. Our skilled detailers have delivered the project on time and we did not get one phone call from workshop or site after we recieved IFC(Issued for Construction) drawings. Our IFA drawing had zero markups. Katherine precinct is a typical example of structural drafting done by Tek1 Pty Ltd

If you are looking for a detailer with a lot of experience in detailing Balustrades, Picket Railing, Curtain Walls, Railings and Facades, then you have come to the right place.
We are fully conversant with Australian balustrades (glass balustrade and picket balustrades type) , the type of fittings to be used, the types of glasses normally used. Also we take care of the Australian standards AS1428, and AS1657. So even if the Architect has missed something, rest assured that we will find and rectify problems if there are any. Full checking to both the above standards are carried out on all our jobs.
We are familiar with a range of fittings; however if you do not have a preference we would recommend Axiom products for the design we undertake.
We have done enough metal works jobs to save you from unnecessary time spent on emails in between approvals. Most of our shop drawing proposals go through the first time.
Site measure drawings are clearly marked out as to what items need to be site measured. We will provide you with Youtube videos of your job on request so that appearances can be viewed on iPhone and tablets. You will shorten your lead-time and cut your project cost when we are on the job.
Kolbe College was detailed by Tek1 Pty Ltd. This is an example of the type of school structures we can detail for you. The shop drawings have gone through first time and we have not received one phone call on this job from either factory or site.
This is another typical example of our no phone call shop detailing.
